As I sit here in my rented office in Koh Lanta, Thailand I realize just how far things have come when it comes to my internet marketing career and how much I am actually starting to take it all for granted. It's good to reflect on the major struggles that I had in school, college and the 9-5 workplace when I used to work for the man all those years ago.

fergal_leprechaun_smallHi, my name is Fergal and I am the host of the aptly named, Fergal's Internet Marketing Show.

First off let me tell you a little bit about myself and how I came to become a full time internet marketer and digital nomad.

When I think back to my school years I know that I was never a dumb kid but I just had absolutely no interest in school. I always had an entrepreneurial mind and I knew that I never wanted to work for someone else. I can think back to when I was about 8 years old and wanting to set up a furniture company all by myself. My parents laughed it off but when they heard hammering and sawing out in the back garden then knew something was up.

I put together something that resembled a bench for people to sit on and it was then that I thought the furniture business wasn't for me.

My first “big break” came when I learned how to make free websites online at the age of 12. I sold one of those websites for… wait for it… £13. We are going back to around the year 1999 – 2000 now. When dial up was slow and napster ruled the discussion at school.

I remember getting the check in the mail and my mother being amazed at how her 12 year old son could produce money from nothing by doing some work on a computer.

So after that “massive success” (sarcasm) I went on being a terrible student in school with my mind more on sports, music and girls than Shakespeare, algorithms or the history of modern art.

I scraped through school and went to college to study personal training and sports nutrition which I loved. I loved interacting with new clients multiple times per day and teaching various fitness classes. Fitness was all I thought about until the recession hit and people no longer had money to pay personal trainers or gym instructors and eventually I left the industry.

I then went into telesales and it was at that point I began to hate my job and the entrepreneur in me began to show its face again. So in an effort to get the hell out of that terrible job I started buying internet marketing training courses to learn how to make money online. I knew once I finished my first course that I had found the dream job for me.

I could be an entrepreneur, my own boss, work from anywhere in the world and make a tonne of money while doing it.

I made my first $22 sale after just 8 days and if anyone saw me jumping with excitement around the sitting room they would have thought I was crazy. I rang all my family and friends and told them I was going to be a millionaire and told them all about internet marketing.

Unfortunately I spoke too soon. That sale was a fluke, a bit of luck and for the next 2-3 years I struggled to make more than $1,000- $2,000 per year. I was about to throw in the towel and start looking at other avenues to be my own boss.

It was at that time that I started reading a book called “Think and Grow Rich”. Which mentioned that you need 3 things to be successful in any business.

  1. Overwhelming desire
  2. The right mentor or coach
  3. I stopped reading the book and within a couple of days I was working with an internet marketing coach and things finally started to change for me

Here is a video that I made recently that talks about my experience with getting an internet marketing mentor.

So since I have been a full time internet marketer for about the last 3-4 years now I have really caught the travel bug. I now spend the summers in Ireland every year and once the winter weather starts approaching I pack my bags and head south like a migrating bird to either South East Asia or the West Coast of the U.S.

Here are some pictures of my travels so far.
